Louisville Rolfing is the practice of Catherine Taye Slattery, Certified Rolfer, Rolf Movement Practitioner and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.
Hi! I'm Catherine. I’m glad you're here. Please be in touch if you have any questions or simply want to connect about your interest. I’d love to hear from you.
I’ve been in practice helping people feel better for over 25 years. I have smart, strong, sensitive hands, a compassionate presence, and tremendous confidence in the body's capacity for healing. I've seen a lot of people get a lot better.
Rolfing and Somatic Experiencing help with the accumulation of injury, tension, stress, effort and trauma in your body. If you’d like to schedule, you can do that here.
Rolfing Structural integration is direct, thorough, detailed, hands-on soft-tissue work that works with the bracing, contraction and compensation patterns created by the body for support and protection. There’s more about this on the Rolfing page.
In Somatic Experiencing, we use light touch or a conversation to help the nervous system resolve trauma. There’s more about this on the Somatic Experiencing page.
I do hands-on Rolfing bodywork with most of my clients. I work with people who have a single issue (like a sprained ankle that never got all the way better) and with people who have complex medical and surgical histories. For about half my clients, trauma healing is a significant part of the process. Much of this happens automatically with Rolfing, and, when needed, I weave in or transition to SE methods. I also do SE sessions without any Rolfing bodywork.
How to know what's a good fit for you? You might see if any of the experiences listed below describe what it's like for you right now. (And see a longer list here: 24 reasons for Rolfing and SE). Classic Rolfing situations are at the top of the list, and Somatic Experiencing is increasingly a part of the process as you go down.
I’ve helped people in these circumstances and more. It would be a privilege to work with you too!
My work reliably helps people have pleasurable and positive body experiences, including lightness, support, groundedness, release, calmness, lift, energy, spaciousness, aliveness, fluidity, alignment, balance, relaxation, and connectedness.
With Rolfing and SE we are working to restore, or discover for the first time, a true sense of health—physical capableness and comfort, and a sense of agency and personal effectiveness. The process can include lasting improvements like:
Something wonderful happens when we show up for our bodies. Yes, we feel more comfortable, and can do more of what we need to do, or love to do—and we also make it possible for body to show up for us, with a tangible experience of being deeply supported and companioned in life. It’s really hard to do life without this, and is life-changing to discover.
Client testimonials and my blog give a good sense of what it is like to work with me. You can read testimonial excerpts below, and full testimonials are here.

From the first session, I knew I was in good hands. Catherine is not only knowledgeable and skilled in her craft, but she has this incredible presence and is able to provide a safe and non-judgmental space.
Thanks to Catherine, I not only recovered from plantar fasciitis, but also accomplished a major personal goal: training for and successfully finishing a marathon. Before rolfing, I was not able to run more than one mile due to my foot pain. However, with Catherine's incredible skills, I was able to overcome my physical limitations and achieve what I thought was impossible.

About midway through my first series with Catherine I found myself weeding in the garden, on my knees, for nearly two hours. When I got up I realized that the knee pain I'd blamed on turning 40 was gone. It hasn't returned and it's been ten years!
I continue to see Catherine several times per year. She is one of my "go-to" practitioners, when any physical issue arises. Catherine blends hands-on skill with receptivity and a gentle spirit that makes me feel at ease and well attended to.

I met Catherine at a point when a bout with sciatica was becoming debilitating. A massage therapist I see in another part of the country recommended I try rolfing. Over the course of a few months Catherine was able to provide me with a reset and, subsequently, my pain went away. When I returned to my old massage therapist, she said “I love your rolfer! Your spine is straight!” Catherine is very easy to work with, has a wonderful way about her, and is an expert in the field of rolfing. I think she's a real treasure for our community.

Catherine is one of those people you find yourself telling your life story and secrets to. Going to her is like therapy, rolled into muscle work. The physical body is clearly linked to the mind because as she helped my muscles and tendons rearrange and realign, it was as if my thoughts started to follow suit. I let go of the tension in my mind as well as my back and neck. I move better, feel better, and think better- I have my life back.

Catherine creates a safe space, which I deeply appreciate. She's warm, strong, attuned, and knows when to speak and when to be silent. Truly masterful in her craft. I was instantaneously comfortable with her and appreciative of the thoroughness with which she works.
Within one hour, I went from a pain level of 10 (I could barely turn my head) to a 2 with full range of motion.
I am forever grateful to Catherine for illuminating the fact that my neck issues are heal-able. There is hope. Not of mere pain maintenance, but of hitting a new and higher default-level of comfort/ease.

I was in pain for over 2 years and was wearing myself thin both physically and emotionally. I had low back/hip pain from 2 bulging discs in my low back. I went to Catherine a bit out of intrigue of what rolfing was but also out of desperation to feel better.
I am 95% pain free and loving it. I feel like she wound back the hands of time on my body and released the memories of injuries that I have had.
Catherine has a gentle spirit and a calming approach to healing your body, a contrast to the pain and frustration that my body was feeling. I learned a lot about my body, how I hold it in everyday life and how I can take better care of it.
